While there are potentially many more questions to be considered let’s start with the core questions from the previous post. Consider also that more and more users require customization of products and they demand a simple to understand user experience. Dynamic rendering of images supports this requirement.
If you determine that you need something more than your CPQ tool offers there are generally two options
     1. Build your own solution
     2. Buy a solution from a vendor

Concerning: Build your own solution:
It can make sense to build your own User Interface solution. In many cases this will require a considerable financial investment and a certain size company to support this solution. Hence this solution is probably more for large and mid-size companies with solid financial means and unique business requirements.

Concerning: Buy a solution from a vendor:

This is a tempting alternative since it is most likely more cost effective than the first one. Hence this is most likely the solution for small business and mid-size businesses that don’t have exceptional business requirements.
Once the decision to buy has been made it can be challenging to find companies that offer only what you need. Plus you need to understand what additional maintenance requirements are connected to this solution. Do you have enough staff to support these changes? Will you always have to go back to the Software Vendor that sold you this solution or will you need to hire Consulting Companies to do the maintenance for you? What maintenance effort should you expect on top of your CPQ tool? You should investigate and analyze these questions and your company’s answer to them before you select and compare vendors.
